Jansz Tasmania Vintage Cuvée 1999 wins Australia Day Wine of the Year 2004! 19 December 2003Jansz Tasmania Vintage Cuvée 1999 is the 2004 winner of the National Australia Day Council's Perpetual Trophy for the "Australia Day Wine of the Year" awarded to "Best Australian Sparkling Wine, Apéritif Style".
The National Australia Day Council chose to nominate Sparkling Apéritif Wines as the recipients of their perpetual trophy over other wine styles because of their versatility, at once suitable for celebratory toasts, as the arrival Apéritif at formal dinners or for cocktail parties - a great sparkling wine is appropriate at some point for almost any occasion.
Australia Day occurs Monday, 26 January, before the 2004 Competition's Trophies are announced on 28 February 2004. Thus, this is the one exception where the Competition announce the Trophy winner in advance, so you may take the opportunity to acquire, enjoy the Jansz Tasmania Vintage Cuvée 1999 for Christmas, for Australia Day and for all your holiday entertaining. It is an outstanding wine and there is not a lot of it available.
Winning the National Australia Day Council's Trophy recognises the 1999 Jansz as "Best Australian Sparkling Wine, Apéritif Style" from a Class of 71 Sparkling wines assessed by an international panel of 13 judges representing five countries, during the judging of the 23rd Sydney International Wine Competition.
Jansz Tasmania Vintage Cuvée 1999 was also recognised with the Competition's Blue-Gold Award for wines judged alongside complementary food and was placed in the Sydney International's elite TOP 1OO Wines 2004, one of only five Sparkling wines so recognised.
The Sparkling Apéritif Finalists were judged beside Tempura Pacific Oysters, Sauce Tartare.
